Gaines Side Chair

Gaines Side Chair

A licensed copy from Winterthur Museum, this John Gaines III side chair is a true Baroque seating form. Made in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, between 1735 and 1743, it has gutsy Spanish feet and turnings. Its uniquely carved crest differs from the more traditional New England banister back chairs. The seat is a fitted natural rush held in with retaining strips.
40 ½” high, 18 ½” wide (seat front)
