Cadwalader Pole Screen

Dripping with carving, this rare pole screen was used to deflect heat from a fireplace and protect a close sitter from the heat. Originally made for General John Cadwalader of Philadelphia, it was most likely from the shop of Thomas Affleck and carved by one of the best carvers in the city at the time. The carved frame of the screen would have had an expensive needlework insert.
62 1/2” high.
